A Quick and Easy Guide to Natural Acne Treatments
59There are a million products on the market to treat acne, but we have plenty of treatments that have been around for hundreds and even thousands of years that work just as well, without all the harsh, unpronounceable chemicals.
Yoga
This first treatment doesn’t even require you to put anything on your skin. Yoga is a good natural acne treatment because it improves the blood circulation, allowing your skin to get more oxygen, which in turn makes it healthier. Additionally, contrary to the beliefs of many, perspiration is actually good for the skin and shouldn’t be avoided if you have acne. Perspiration flushes your pores and can rid your skin of the particles that cause acne. Done regularly, yoga can result in fewer acne breakouts.
Rinsing Your Face
When rinsing your face, always use lukewarm water. Cold water closes your pores, which minimizes
the effect of treatment, and hot water can irritate the skin. Lukewarm is best. This is when you rinse your face in general, or when rinsing any of the below products off your face.
Orange Peel Face Scrub
One of the more effective treatments for acne takes advantage of the acid in oranges. Dry pieces of an orange peel and then grind it into a powder using a mortar and pestle or a blender. Alternatively, you can buy powdered orange peel to save yourself the work. Add enough liquid (water or, even better, fresh carrot or tomato juice) to form a paste. Massage this into your skin and let it sit for five minutes before rinsing your skin with lukewarm water.
Yogurt and Oatmeal
Yogurt and oatmeal is a gentle, moisturizing face wash that can soothe blemish-irritated skin. Grind oatmeal in a blender until it’s a fine powder. Mix the oatmeal powder with plain yogurt to form a thick paste. Apply the paste to your face, and once it’s dry, rinse your face with lukewarm water.
Mint and Turmeric
Combine one teaspoon of mint oil with a pinch of turmeric powder. Wash your face before applying this. Let it sit for 30 minutes and rinse off.
Raw Honey
Honey is a natural antibiotic, and raw honey is best. Apply the honey to problem areas. Let it sit ten minutes before rinsing. You might want to avoid the dog while using this treatment.
Lemon Juice
Apply lemon juice to acne-affected areas.
Garlic
This might be one of the smelliest treatments, but the antibiotic properties of allicin in garlic help it to be quite effective. Rub raw garlic on affected areas multiple times a day to help relieve acne breakouts.
Tomato Paste
Apply tomato paste to blemishes. The acid in the paste helps to relieve acne. Let it sit one hour and then rinse it off.
